• The demise of the moderated groups

    From A. non Eyemouse@21:1/5 to All on Wed Aug 3 14:12:23 2022
RSGBtech shows a month-on-month decline of postings, with users
preferring to start their own "specialist" groups. Stats at https://ibb.co/GtRrNn1

Meanwhile, over in uk.radio.amateur.moderated - the one that the
minority campaigned so hard for - three months with no meaningful
content apart from the moderation policy, one follow-up to an existing
thread in July. I can't see my screen for the tumbleweed. This month,
Les asks "Is it worth keeping this NG open?"

Time to bring on the RFD?

This group is almost entirely full of the obsessive / abusive rantings of
the Usual Rejects. Even when someone asks for help with a technical
    question, they wade in.

As for “specialist groups”, I posted well over a decade ago specialist moderated groups, with even handed moderators, were flourishing and would continue to do so. RSGBTech being a prime example.

Meanwhile, the Usual Rejects are still bouncing off the walls of their self made padded cells- providing entertainment as village fools once did.

Much the same as its bastard sister, the moderated cycling group, which
has had two posts so far this year.

Interesting how two such groups, formed in the same manner with sock
armies, have gone the same way. Surely a case of 'be careful for what
    you wish...'

Time to bring on the RFD?

Do you think that American Schmuck who interfered last time might be

Interesting case with his re-posting of MW1CFN's blog here via it's RSS
feed. I don't think the author realised this until someone from here
made comments on the "Len Paget RSGB email account" posting. Author has
also taken to putting explicit copyright notices on all his content and disabled the RSS feed which suggests he was unhappy with it being re-distributed far and wide. Well worth a read though as it highlights
some very dubious behaviours within RSGB Ltd.

It's all in the stats. That and other people having a different opinion

Nice to see so many people know what a resin joint is though, perhaps

The raison d'etre for uram was the flame wars in this group. Now that
the combatants are now dead, senile or lost interest, the abuse that
kept it alive is gone. Now all that is left here is the odd sensible
post. The majority of the posts are auto-blogs.That sort of thing
spelled the death of the rec.radio.amateur* groups.

If the blogs were removed, it could be quite a decent group unshackled
from the tyranny of moderation, then I agree uram could be removed in
theory. The late Paul Cummings tried it.

Of course ulm is so successful, that uk.legal could be deleted.

Uk.rec.cycling soldiers on because the posters have learned not to feed
    the trolls.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. The last, and successful, RFD was supported by people who took pains not to take sides in the flame war, and to (correctly as it turned out) reassure people that there would be little or no effect on ukra. Of course, the impetus came from the American, and I don't think anyone else was enormously optimistic about the value of the group. It now ranks as one of the many uk.* groups that remains just about useful enough not to be deleted. Text Usenet is not, of course, a growing medium. Not least becasue it is hard to see how it can provide a significant profit to anyone.

Interesting how two such groups, formed in the same manner with

Time to bring on the RFD?

Do you think that American Schmuck who interfered last time might

The raison d'etre for uram was the flame wars in this group. Now
that the combatants are now dead, senile or lost interest, the
abuse that kept it alive is gone. Now all that is left here is the
odd sensible post. The majority of the posts are auto-blogs.That
sort of thing spelled the death of the rec.radio.amateur* groups.

The battle for the creation of the moderated group was just a
continuation of the flame war. Not sure who won the peace, though.

I'm not sure that's entirely true. The last, and successful, RFD was
supported by people who took pains not to take sides in the flame
war, and to (correctly as it turned out) reassure people that there
would be little or no effect on ukra. Of course, the impetus came
from the American, and I don't think anyone else was enormously
optimistic about the value of the group. It now ranks as one of the
many uk.* groups that remains just about useful enough not to be
deleted. Text Usenet is not, of course, a growing medium. Not least
becasue it is hard to see how it can provide a significant profit to
    anyone.

Not entirely true, I'd agree, but largely true - not like you to be
    picky, Roger.

    welcome back burnie

    Nobody won. All too late.

Scummins is dead (probably), Cole seems to have lost interest; who do
    you reckon's gone senile?

He's definitely dead- died 3 times. I've probably gone senile.

If the blogs were removed, it could be quite a decent group
unshackled from the tyranny of moderation, then I agree uram could
be removed in theory. The late Paul Cummings tried it.

Of course ulm is so successful, that uk.legal could be deleted.

Uk.rec.cycling soldiers on because the posters have learned not to
    feed the trolls.

Burt seems to be enjoying his morning constitutional troll in the >unmoderated cycling group, food or not.

Things to do in Devon when you're dead, Jimmy (the saint).

    what?

Everybody's restless and they've got no place to go. Someone's
always trying to tell them something they already know. So their
    anger and resentment flow.
