• Brompton Bicycle Launches at John Lewis

From swldxer1958@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 22 12:18:27 2023
Brompton is launching online at John Lewis – marking an expansion into the retail sector for the iconic British brand.

The company says it is on a mission to create urban freedom for happier lives, helping to reduce traffic and air pollution in our cities. Expanding into a well-known retailer will help to take Brompton, and cycling more widely, to a larger audience.

Toby Marcham, head of UK and EMEA sales at Brompton said: ‘’We’re at a very exciting stage in our history at Brompton, having recently produced our millionth bike. The next million is in our sights as we look to deliver our aim of creating urban
freedom for happier lives – helping to make our cities healthier and safer places to live.

‘’Working with another iconic British business to take our bikes to a wider audience is an exciting prospect.’’

This announcement comes as Brompton confirmed a first equity capital raise for 35 years for a £19m stake in the company after shareholders approved an investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF), backed by multiple high street banks.

Will Butler-Adams, CEO at Brompton, said: “Over the last two decades, Brompton has grown organically at circa 20% a year, funded by reinvesting our profits. For the year ended March 2023, turnover grew 21% to £130m, supported by the launch of the
Superlight T Line and Electric P Line products.

“We export 80% of our bikes to 46 countries, and in November 2022 made our one-millionth bike, a great achievement. But this is not enough, we need to move faster. The impact of Climate change is being felt by us all and the greatest carbon emissions
come from our cities where most of the world’s population now lives.

“Our team at Brompton are brimming with ideas to accelerate our growth through product innovation, storytelling, outstanding stores and having fun with our amazing community. But if we are really going to go for it, we need to strengthen our balance
sheet to give us the confidence to be more ambitious.”

A range of Brompton bikes will be available, including the Brompton C Line, Electric C Line, P Line, and Electric P Line.

Give it the better part of five decades, like we gave the EEC/EC/EU before telling them to take a hike.

The number of cars produced fell 9.8 per cent to 775,014, the worst year since 1956, according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders on Thursday.

While the worldwide industry is still hamstrung by a global semiconductor shortage and sporadic parts supplies from China, several UK plant closures during the past two years depressed the numbers further.

Honda’s Swindon facility, which produced about 100,000 models a year, closed in 2021, while the Stellantis site at Ellesmere Port last year ceased making the Vauxhall Astra to prepare for making a new electric van, which will start this year.

Several plants were hit by supply chain problems during the year, with BMW’s Mini plant affected by supply of wiring harnesses made in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. Several plants were also hit by parts shortages from China, where factories
had to stop suddenly owing to Covid-19 shutdowns.

In addition, sales to Russia — which was in the top 10 export markets during 2021 — ceased earlier in the year following the invasion of Ukraine.

As carmakers have struggled to secure enough chips to make their vehicles, they have prioritised the most profitable models. While this helped some UK factories such as VW’s Bentley and BMW’s Rolls-Royce, it may have hurt Toyota, which makes its
    larger models overseas.

    What makes you say that?

How many decades did it take Brompton - the virtue-signaller's delight -
    to produce a million chav-bikes?

And aren't you trying on a bit of deceit by comparing an industry which
has the capacity to produce and sell a million or more products a year
with one which takes thirty years to do the same number?

BritishVolt had taxpayers money spunked on it, and that had an inadequate business model (which is why investors wouldn’t touch it).

Mr Tata has a track record of running billion-dollar industries, so is a
    much better bet.

When I did Economics, the return to government from their initial
investment was about 8x, but as you will have studied the subject later
than I did, you’ll be able to come up with an up-to-date figure.
