Chilling CCTV footage has captured the moments before a would-be murderer rammed a cyclist off the road before launching a 'brutal' attack.

The clip shows 'cowardly' Ijaz Ahmed, of Meir, following his ex-partner's husband in a blue Toyota Yaris in the early hours of a cold December morning. The victim begins cycling to work and unbeknownst to him is followed by Ahmed. Soon after, just off
camera, Ahmed runs him down and before attacking him with a 'bladed weapon'.

Officers discovered the victim with deep cuts to his head, as well as blunt force trauma to his body and a skull injury.

Fifty-one-year-old Ahmed had been lying in wait for his victim after making the journey from Stoke-on-Trent to Rochdale. Minshull Street Crown Court heard the defendant was motivated by 'jealousy, hurt pride and revenge' when he carried out the assault
in Bowness Road, Middleton, on December 12, 2021.

He had hoped to evade detection by borrowing the Toyota from a Stoke-on-Trent garage on the understanding that he knew someone who was interested in buying the car.

But detectives were able to trace the vehicle back to the dealership after it was advertised it for sale. A key witness at the garage told officers that the car was missing on the morning of the collision and was returned a few hours later by Ahmed with
damage to the number plate and scratches to the paintwork.

When confronted, Ahmed offered to pay for repairs and broke the number plate into pieces. He insisted the number plate be reported as stolen to the police, but this was not done and the number plate was simply replaced by the garage.

By this point in the investigation, Ahmed had fled the country but when he returned five months later in the mistaken belief police were no longer looking for him, he was arrested.

Despite denying all knowledge of the crime, Ahmed, of Harrowby Road, was convicted of attempted murder and was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in jail with five years on extended licence. He was also handed an indefinite restraining order against the
    victim.

Judge Bernadette Baxter said: "The CCTV is chilling and showed Ahmed prowling the area and lying in wait. The victim was utterly defenceless and suffered profound injuries. He is no longer the man he was and never will be. From first to last (Ahmed) has
shown not one jot of remorse."

    “O beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.”

And of course, I immediately state that I did not write that. I am no
Mad Mason, plagiarising the work of others and not pretending that it is
    mine.

But since everyone of moderate intelligence and learning immediately
recognises the quotation, I shan't state its source in full.

Ahmed was convicted of attempted murder, not ‘knocking a cyclist off his bike’.

I assume you are intentionally playing the dimwit, because a traffic
accident and attempted murder are poles apart in the legal world.

You did read the reports you posted, didn’t you?

Of what practical use will the restraining order be for the next thirty

For "wing" mirror read DOOR mirror - some people are still stuck in the 1970's like the gammons they are.
