An Anlaby man caught throwing a fast-food bag out of his car window has had the book thrown at him.

Ellis Anthony Gibbs, of The Avenue in the village, pleaded guilty to littering after he was caught dropping the McDonald's bag in the car park of Haltemprice Leisure Centre. It proved to be an expensive decision as he was taken to court and told to pay a
    total of £243.

Beverley Magistrates' Court fined Gibbs £100 and ordered him to pay £100 in costs and a victim surcharge of £43.

Gibbs was caught throwing the bag out of his car window and leaving it behind in September last year. East Riding Council tried to interview him about the incident, but he repeatedly failed to respond to their letters.

Following this, the case was taken to court. Carl Skelton, East Riding Council's acting streetscene director, said there was no excuse for littering. "Dumped waste like fast food bags is a problem everywhere. People can easily use a bin nearby or take
their rubbish home, we’ll take action against all littering cases when we can," he added.

Littering is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act. People can be given a £150 fixed penalty notice or face fines of up to £2,500 in court.

Nearby residents have previously complained about antisocial behaviour in the Haltemprice car park. Last December, a mother said her young son was struggling to sleep because of rude and noisy youths who gathered there in the evenings. The woman
described teenagers and young adults playing loud music and staging races in the car park.

Fixed the windscreen wipers yet, BTW?

I believe these kids call these antisocial events "car meets" where like minded yobs show off their cars and create noise and fumes all night. Should be banned.

Bicycle meets, especially of the so-called ‘time trial’ type, should be banned.
