A driver has been fined and given points after a change to the Highway Code over passing too close to cyclists.

A driver has been fined and given points after a change to the Highway Code over passing too close to cyclists.

Michelle Heard, 36, pleaded guilty to driving without reasonable consideration to other road users at Norwich Magistrates' Court.

She was charged over causing a danger of a collision after her Vauxhall Corsa was too close when overtaking a cyclist on Station Road in Hoveton in October 2022.

Changes to the Highway Code last year altered the hierarchy of road users to improve the safety of people walking, cycling and riding horses.

It now states that drivers must leave at least 1.5m when overtaking people cycling at speeds of up to 30mph.

Heard, of Hastings Way, Sutton, near Stalham, was fined £103 and given three points.

In a separate case, a Ford Fiesta driver denies driving without due care and attention by passing a cyclist too close on Dereham Road, Norwich, on September 9 last year.

The case against Archie O'Neon, 18, from Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, has been adjourned until March 24 next year.

The Highway Code, as intelligent people know, does not say "must" except
when referring to a statute or regulation.

    Statute and Regulation, please.

Oh hang on... we're talking of *intelligent* people.

    So we'll let you off.

Oh no - it will be another slap on the wrist due to the "stress" the driver had to go through due to having to stew for 6 months waiting for a verdict - poor lamb.

It is an offence to impersonate a police officer.

It is an attempt to purport to be a lawyer.

You seem to be committing both offences, as a mere floor-sweeper and
    mop-man.

All we need now is a means of measuring the 1.5m…

Good to see that you can lose your licence for passing cyclists too closely - about time too.

When exactly did three points and a small fine amount to a loss of licence?
