A cyclist has died after being hit by a car in Colney, just outside of Norwich. It happened on Watton Road at the junction with Colney Lane at 5.10am this morning (November 9).

The collision involved a black Mercedes CLA 200 and a pedal cyclist. Both were travelling in the direction of Hethersett when the car collided with the cyclist. Sadly, the cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, died at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. He was taken to the Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.

Several roads were closed whilst the emergency services dealt with the scene, including the ambulance service. The road closures were all lifted shortly after 11am.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the collision or who may have relevant dashcam footage. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Serious Collision
