A driver who struck and killed a seven-year-old boy in a crash in Bradford has been jailed.
Malakye Hall died after he was hit near the junction of Manchester Road and St Stephen's Road on 11 August 2020.
He had been left alone at home by his mother and managed to get out of the house, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Mohsin Hussain, 32, of Carlisle Terrace, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for nine years and nine months on Thursday.
The court was told that Hussain was driving a black Toyota Auris when he struck Malakye at about 22:00 BST.
Hussain, who was an unlicensed private hire driver but not working at the time of the crash, had more than twice the legal limit of cannabis in his system.
Footage showed the car he was driving speeding along city centre roads, driving the wrong way around a roundabout and going through red lights before the crash.
He was driving at about 54mph (86km/h) when he struck Malakye.
In a statement, the boy's family said Malakye was "loved and liked by all those who knew him".
They said: "The sentence of losing Malakye will never end, it is a life sentence for us."
Prosecutor Abigail Langford said Malakye appeared to run into the road, but that the judge had to consider Hussain's dangerous driving before the collision.
Hussain stayed at the scene of the crash and expressed genuine remorse, the court heard.
He had paid some money towards the cost of Malakye's funeral, defence barrister Oliver Jarvis said.
Judge Jonathan Rose told Hussain: "You were prepared to drive on public roads when you knew, or ought to have known, that your ability to drive was significantly impaired."
He said he accepted that since the crash, Hussain had been volunteering and had been involved in educating others on road safety.
The court heard that Malakye's mother, Wendy Hall, had left him at home alone on that evening so she could visit her partner. The 33-year-old was jailed for three years in August 2021 after she admitted a charge of neglect.
Hussain was banned from driving for 10 years and 10 months and must take an extended test at the end of that disqualification period.
