The BNA has added the Stornoway Gazette to its coverage so been looking
up what they had to say about Eitshal.

Interesting to see that in 1976 people were complaining to Grampian that
their weather maps and forecasts did not include Skye and the Western
Isles. Same happened with STV, took them a long time to realise that
their service area included the West coast though I think they still
just looked out of their window and gave the Glasgow weather. :-)

    Lewis TV delay
It will now be early summer before 17,000 islanders on Lewis will get a
choice of television programmes and colour, it was stated yesterday by a
BBC spokesman. Originally the colour service was expected to come into operation by the new year. but a few weeks ago the 30 feet aerial for
the top of the 500 feet mast at Eitshal fell to the ground while it was
being hoisted into position and was damaged beyond repair.
The spokesman said that an EMI aerial, similar to that which had been
damaged, would now be used and it was expected the work would be
    completed bv early summer.

    Lewis TV blackout goes on
BBC ENGINEERS were sent Lewis yesterday to. carry out repairs to the TV
aerial on top of the 600 ft. mast at Eitshal. near Achmore. Viewers have
been without BBC 1 and 2 since Monday and the Grampian programmes faded
    at lunchtime yesterday.
Asked why all the programmes had not stopped at the same time, a BBC
spokesman said that although they shared the same mast as ITV they had
their own separate transmitters and separate feeds to the aerials. It
was hoped to resume normal services as soon as possible.

    TV problems Lewis
BBC engineers, sent to Lewis on Tuesday to carry out repairs to the TV

working there. On Monday some viewers were without BBCI and 2 and the
Grampian programme faded at lunch-time on Tuesday.
Yesterday all three programmes were available for periods, although last
night viewers had difficulty with BBC 2.

Stornoway Gazette and West Coast Advertiser - Saturday 07 January 1984
The **tourist attraction’’ of not having Channel-4 is likely to vanish
when the Eitshal transmitter is fully converted in the autumn of 1984.
The transmitter, run jointly be BBC and IBA, will serve the north hali
    of Lewis.
