• 4:3 content in commercials

    It seems to be the latest fad, commercials pillar boxed to 4:3 for all
    or part of the spot.

    What I fail to see is a pattern, a particular type of campaign where
    the technique is being used?

    What emotion is being convoyed to us?
    I suppose they have been manipulating the Y-axis for years now it's
    the E-W turn.

    Should I perhaps stop worrying about it, and leave this stuff to those
    with media studies degrees?

    I suppose it's similar to using b/w, and/or adding faux film grain and scratches, though (on the Tesco ads particularly) why ?
